My recent need for more color in my life has resulted in a hefty purchase of Rit fabric dye for some DIY wardrobe projects. First up? A little practice in the home decor department.Three little packets of fabric dye gave the rather neutral alcove of our great room a much needed infusion of jewel tone color.
Adding color to these linen burlap curtains was actually a pretty easy process, but it took quite a bit of nerve. What if I messed up? What would I do for curtains? I kind of loved those curtains, and they were my first home purchase four years ago when I was preparing for married life.
Giving the burlap curtains this ombre look was a two-step process, which I've detailed in a recent post at Apartment Therapy. Easy peasy, I promise! Head on over to get the details, and maybe you can muster the courage to add a little bit more color to your home too!
beautiful color!

The curtains are so lovely with the way the light hits them from behind, and the sparkly lights are just magical. Love it!

Amazing what a little pop of colour will do for an alcove! I like that you kept your same curtains instead of going out and buying new ones. They look beautiful!

LOVE LOVE LOVE this color! I also love the birdcage! I've been searching high and low for a pretty one like that--any tips on where to look? My craig's list is coming up empty lately :(
Thanks for sharing!

Hi Melissa,
I actually got the "birdcage" on clearance at an Anthropologie store (in Chicago), but it is actually a handle holder. Three pillar candles go inside. I bought this over two years ago, so I'm afraid I have no tips. :\

That looks lovely! Great color for the space. Just be aware that the dye will fade A LOT after every time you wash. That's one problem I've had with RIT dyes.

Your apartment is wonderful! I am in love with the rug under your dining table! If you get the urge to dye again, Dharma Trading Co. makes some stunning colors! xoxo

Absolutely beautiful result - I've been bored with my white curtains as well, though not sure I have the nerve to try this (eep!).
Love your style - your blog is an escape...
