Though I certainly had hoped to be reclining in my own bed at home, I write to you from a Holiday Inn on the border of Ohio and Pennsylvania. Why am I here? Well, let's start at the beginning. Phil and I decided to take a weekend trip to Washington DC, since he had never been there, and he had a long weekend due to President's Day. How perfect, no?
Well, after a weekend of seeing all of the touristy sites, we got a late start to our last morning in DC. But wanted to stop by our favorite president's memorial before leaving town. So, we stopped by and paid our regards to Mr. Lincoln, drove by the White House, and then hit the road around 12:30PM.
The slight drizzle on the highway was a bit annoying, but kept me entertained as long as I had my camera. It was when the light drizzle turned into freezing rain and then suddenly into six inches of snow that it became a great, big, terrifying issue. After taking three hours to get through Pittsburgh, and barely managing to stay on the roads, we pulled off the highway (fortunately not flying off the highway) and decided to check in around 10PM for one last night in a hotel.
I can't help thinking this was supposed to be a terribly romantic end to the weekend. You know, snowed in at a hotel against our will? In a movie? Oh my, yes. Very romantic. In real life? Gaaaah!
Why can't all transportation be as quick and easy as the metro system in DC? (-Says the non-commuting visitor to the city!) Tonight I will probably dream of hopping on the metro rail from DC and getting off at a stop in Canton, Ohio. Oh, that would be the day.
Canton is kind of by my house in Ohio :) I hope that you had an amazing time it looks like you did :)

Looks like you had a great weekend..besides being snowed in! You should have stayed in DC an extra night and seen more sights. We barely got any snow here! Your pictures are so pretty. They should be in a DC tourist brochure :)

My husband and I took a long weekend trip to St. Louis and ran into the same problem driving home last night. 40 mph on unplowed highways the whole way from Columbus to Cleveland. We debated a hotel several times but ended up making the long trek home.

ha! had to laugh at your non-commuter comment. i think the dc metro commute and all it's drama is the number one reason i quit my job. :)
so sorry you're stranded! good luck with the final leg of the drive.

Oh, it sounds lovely - despite the snowy roads at the end! DC has so much to see. :) Wishing you safe travels on the last part of the trip home!

That's a bummer you didn't have fun : ( Sometimes spontaneous things can be great, but usually when you're heading home it's just as good to just GET there! Ha.

What dreamy pictures of you two. Don't worry, once the terrifying memories of the snow driving fade in a few weeks, you'll think it was romantic. (haha)

You always have such great adventures! I'm glad you got to hang out with Mr. Lincoln on his day. Hopefully one day we really can take the metro from DC to Canton.
One day.

Aw, too bad about the weather on your way home! I'm still a little jealous--President's Day with Lincoln? That's like a dream of mine!

That's where I live! DC is amazing, but only a tourist would talk about how amazing our metro is. :) It has its issues, but SO glad that you had some good luck with it! It's delightful to hear that you enjoyed visiting my hometown, hope that you come visit again real soon!

I have never been there before and it isn't that far from where I live either. Looks so cool too!!! I really need to go one of these days. My husband has been there twice. Maybe when my sons are older and are learning about the history of the US we'll take them there.
I love these shots. The one of you waking up phil is adorable because you can see he's sleepy, annoyed, but really loves you all in one. I also love the rainy shot too.
