I just remembered why I don't all together hate winter. Fur! I have been feeling so blasé about my winter wardrobe. Same ol' dress here, typical pair of worn out pair of tights there. And that's how I was feeling today about my cardigan and dress combination. Until! The fur collar.
If you're a little confused, yes, I am vegan. But I became so because of health reasons as opposed to moral reasons. So don't judge me and my fur collar. Besides, I thought we decided it was okay if it was vintage, right? (You can probably tell I still feel guilty.)

I *love* the fur collar! And if it makes you feel better, I totally bought a cute dinosaur t that says 'vegetarian' just because it was cuter than the (more appropriate for me) carnivore trex :)

I love your outfit here.
I think vintage leathers are furs arent really contributing to anything, and you're justifying staying warm. Theres always faux fur (I'm not vegan though)

I love your boots, and the fur collar with that cardigan! Great combo.
And I totally agree that if it's vintage, it's OK. I mean, it's already out there in the world! You're not supporting any industry or economy that hurts animals. Things that are already out there should be used, right? Riiiiight?
But I know what you mean! Clearly.

love your boots... hem but I'm not very into the fur collar... even if it's vintage and the animal was hunted a very long time ago!

I just had that discussion not too long ago about the vintage fur thing. I had found a gorgeous vintage cape, but it had a beaver collar and wristlets(?). I felt kind of...weird about the fur thing. BUT my friend said, that beaver gave up it's life, what, 60 years ago~ your recycling, it's eco friendly. So I bought it, and I am SO glad I did :)

I actually don't care if it is vintage - fur is fur.
but anyway, cute outfit. :)

Wow, "because it is vintage fur it is ok" is the biggest bull excuse ever. You are perpetuating the use of fur, and surprise! there is not an endless supply of vintage fur jackets/sweaters to go around to meet the demand you help further.
I love how this sounds like you judge people that wear fur that isn't "vintage" as being wrong. What do you have a "vintage fur" button you wear around so other people aren't confused?
If you wanted to be "eco-friendly" by recycling clothing you would have purchased the sweater and removed the fur collar. If you just love the "an animal had to die for this outfit" look then you could have replaced the collar with faux-fur.

Could't agree with you more about "third hand" fur... I could never buy fur that was only previously owned by an animal, but if it has also been owned by a human it's okee. I am slightly doubtfull if my grandmothers fur collar falls in this categorie but my salvation army fur coat sure does.
And faux fur: It might look good, but like so many things you can't beat the feeling of the real stuff.

These are all very thoughtful responses. I suppose some people care more about animals than myself. Although, I do care to some extent. I have tried to be more of an advocate for human rights, personally. Although, that shouldn't be an excuse for me to discount animal's welfare.
I honestly had never thought about me wearing vintage fur perpetuating the fur industry, but I guess I never really give the clothes I wear that much weight. I suppose even faux fur would perpetuate the fur industry, if this is the case.
And I just want to be clear that I really don't judge people who wear new fur. But it makes me feel okay if I wear vintage fur. I'm not concerned how this makes me look to others (perhaps I *should* get a "this is only vintage" button? haha), and I could care less whether they know it's vintage or think it's real. Maybe that's the real problem, that I don't care what passersby think about my clothing choices?
