Outfit to Scrapbook: Vintage Collegiate

I wanted to take the clean simplicity of this outfit and translate it into a scrapbook page, without neglecting the slightly haphazard feel. The easiest way to achieve this, in my opinion, is to keep things very linear, but hand cutting everything with scissors, instead of a straight edge. The not-so-perfect machine stitching helps with this effect too.

Since there isn't a lot of pattern in the featured outfit, I knew I would have to make things interesting with element placing instead. To tie in specific elements from the outfit, I used leather scraps and snippets of vintage wallpaper that brought out the essence of the tie and vest, as well as the color of the shoes.

Outfit to Scrapbook: Funky Femme

I loved this funky feeling pretty outfit that Ashley wore a while back. While she is wearing a dress, it has a casual vibe because of the mixing of the calico with the stripes. So 1960s, if you ask me!

For the casual vibe, I thought it would be fun to finger paint the stripes onto the page. The rest of the page is just piecing together patterned elements that suited the vibe of the dress.

Outfit to Scrapbook: Blue Collar Ballerina

For this outfit to scrapbook transformation, I really wanted to emphasize the color blocking and casual sophistication of the outfit. To mimic the pleats of the skirt, I used a paper crimper on sage green patterned paper.

Keeping the color proportions relatively the same, I laid out the page, using pink paint similar to the color of the shirt and black stitching to add the casual pocketed vibe. The littler details included punching out holes below the bottom photo to mimic the holes of the belt, and adding a bold black "k" to give a similar feeling of the shoes in the outfit. Sure, the page isn't a dead ringer for the outfit, but inspiration has to start somewhere, right? :)

Outfit to Scrapbook: Preppy Meets Funky

Translated from the outfit to the page is the idea of the open jacket surrounding a lacy patterned center, with little bits of pink and blue pattern poking out here and there. To add extra lacy texture that you just can't get with printed paper, I stitched two strips of white lace at the top and bottom of the page. Black accents from the outfit, like the tights, hat, and shoes, appear in the matting of the photos and the foam letters I used. And, of course, as smitten with buttons as I am, I added some buttons like the ones on her coat, which really tie the photos in with the page.
