PLANNING FOR BABY | Part Two

I've got to admit, thinking about this baby's nursery has been the last thing on my mind. Wondering if I had cancer, wrapping up getting life insurance, and trying to stay distracted with work has definitely trumped baby planning around our house these days. Thankfully, we received some great news, and so life continues as normal! Hooray!

So, onto more good news! A week from tomorrow we get to DTS this baby. (DTS = determine the sex) My mom, who was dutifully distracting me from my worries recently, went with me to purchase three boy outfits, and three girl outfits in preparation for DTS day. Of course, after finding such adorable baby girl clothes, I now will be a wee bit disappointed if we discover a little boy growing inside of me- who surely should not be subjected to pink polka dots and bows. But I'm prepared for anything. :)

Besides little baby clothes, my attention is fixed on finding a fun, vintage poster for above the crib. Talk about distracting! You'd never know how difficult it is to find child-appropriate posters with style. But here are our top contenders. What do you think? Again, I'm crossing my fingers for a little girl, because gosh darn if that Funny Girl poster isn't perfect!

HOME | A Glimpse Into Our Living Room

After painting our living and dining rooms, I must admit, I was a little terrified to hang any artwork. (I'm notorious for nailing, chanigng my mind, and nailing again.) We've been here for two months, and I'm just now putting some stuff on the walls. I'm really glad that I've finally taken that step, though, because it makes me realize that we already have a lot of what we need to make this place our home. No need to be sad about not being able to buy pretty new things, like wallpaper and curtains!

I will be sharing the rest of the living room, and the story behind our wall color when the day comes that curtains are on our windows. And until then, I hope you enjoy taking a peek at what little I've accomplished so far!

INSPIRED BY: Sweet Stuff for the Home

Donuts and candy and cake and ice cream! Seriously detrimental delicious stuff that might better serve you on the walls of your home than on the walls of your arteries. Of course, if you live life dangerously like me, you can enjoy your framed cake and eat it too! Here are a few sweet things for your home that I've literally been drooling over recently. Unpacking and Settling In

A month! I can't believe it. A little over a month ago, Phil and I were biting our nails wondering how we would manage a move from our third floor apartment across town to our new house. My being pregnant, and Phil's ACL tear the night before... it just seemed impossible. Until dozens of friends showed up at our apartment, and suddenly everything was done! Just like that! We were overwhelmed with thankfulness.

Since the move, we've already embarked on a few unexpected projects. You know, the ones they tell you will jump up and surprise you as new home owners. For one- our house wasn't insulated! In northeast Ohio, this is a big deal, and an even bigger gas bill. So we purchased 40 bags of celuose insulation and an industrial insulation blower. We drilled 4-inch holes into our exterior walls and spent a week bowling in the insulation. This made for a huge mess, lots of holes in our walls, and tarps over all of our unpacked boxes. So we spent a week at my parents' house and delayed getting set up in our new house.

Fast forward a few weeks, and now all of the holes have been filled, and new paint is even on the walls (in a couple rooms- we're taking our time in deciding paint colors). In combination with needing our entire sewage drain line cleared, we've spent our savings on fixing up some major problems, which means we won't be buying anything pretty for the house for quite a while. I hate spending money that can't be seen, don't you? It just seems like the money disappeared. But! We are warm, and our toilets flush. These are important things.

Even though it's frustrating waiting on things like curtains, wall paint, and organizational supplies, I think I'll enjoy this time figuring out how our belongings fit into this new space. And since I love homemaking so much, it's kind of nice that this process is being drawn out so much. Maybe in a couple of decades this place will be finished! (But come on, homeowners, we all know that won't happen!)
