The Necessary. The Loo. Or What Have You.

Bathrooms usually aren't very glamorous, and mine is no exception. They just aren't very fun to decorate on a budget, and they're often filled with lots of not-so-pretty things. Limited by a shoestring budget, lack of ANY drawers and closets, and also an inability to make any structural changes, I've found several easy ways to prettify our loo.

  • I combatted our lack of drawer space with a shower caddy next to the sink. I would love a nice vintage cabinet with a door to hang here, but until I find the perfect one that I can afford, this will do just fine!
  • To add charm to small storage items, I used thrifted mugs to hold necessary items like cotton swabs and to corral items like tweasers, hair-ties, and small tubes.
  • Without curtain hardware and lack of space to instal any, I used a small tension rod to hang lace curtains over a window that doesn't really get any light. But matching the color to the walls and blinds, it's a subtle and pretty way to add some detail in this nook.

  • No closet, and no drawers. Well, what do I do with the, uh, necessary items? I have baskets and metal storage boxes that I stack next to the water closet and on top of the radiator. They look nice, and keep things organized.
  • Instead of using a traditional toothbrush holder purchased at a retail store, I used a pretty glass cup found at the thrift store.
  • I needed an extra wide shower curtain to wrap around our tub/shower, so I purchased a regular liner and then found this pretty floral sheet at the thrift store for the curtain. All I did was cut holes (evenly spaced with the liner's holes) at the side of the sheet, and hung it with pretty hooks I bought 4 years ago at Bed Bath & Beyond.
  • This one is pretty obvious, but there was empty wall space in front of the toilet, so I hung some art there. The top photo is our wedding party from our 2007 wedding. We've changed so much since then, it gives people something to chuckle at while they're on the John! :)

Love what you did!! I don't have a closet or anything either. I have a little drawer where my towels are and a basket that I place all the toilet paper in. I like what you have better though. ;)

I know what you mean about bathrooms not being fun to decorate on a budget. My Pinterest has zero bathroom inspiration in it. I even have laundry room inspiration, but nothing for the bathroom.

I really like what you've done with yours. It's very pretty.

Um yeah, even you're bathroom looks awesome! I don't know how you do it but I love it.

I love what you have done with your bathroom though. Very nice.

I SO love that idea for a shower curtain. We'll be moving (yet again) in a few months, and I think I'll be on the look out for the prettiest, perfect old sheet!

smartypants :)

i love the idea of the shower organize by the sink, we live in an older home with absolutely NO storage so i'm always trying to think of ways to store things in pretty ways.

It's loovely...

That's spooky, I've just written a blog post abou tmy bathroom! I am blessed with a particularly quirky water closet in my shared rented flat, and I love it. The post will be up on Sunday :)

This comes at the perfect time for me! I just moved into an apartment that *also* has no cabinets or drawers in the bathroom. This gives me some great inspiration!!

That is so pretty, and it doesn't look like you have a limited budget, quite the opposite in fact.

xxx

Hahaha, we have his 'n hers shower caddys to make up for our lack of storage too!

I love the pictures over the loo as well, it's so cool how some photographs (and the memory) stay special every time you look at them.

Happy weekend!
xx

Love the idea of using a pretty box for TP! :) Thanks for sharing - it may not always be pretty, but a bathroom is something we use every day and I love seeing how people tackle limited space. :)

Aw, everything you've done looks so pretty! Thanks for the inspiration!
