Playing Santa
I never believed in Santa Claus as a child. My parents thought there were more important things about Christmas, and also they didn't ever want to lose the trust of their children. I still think Santa is a silly tradition (though a good story), but his name still gets bandied about here and there by cheeky members of my family. And so, let me show you my bag of gifts that Santa is bringing my family this year. :)
I have really been wanting to buy gifts from local independent shops, and knowing that my brother and mother love antiques almost as much as I do, I went a little crazy at Stagecoach Antiques in Akron.
My brother is to receive the vintage election sign, cigar box filled with cuff links and a little old sign for his desk, and the soup mugs I thrifted last summer.
I've also been spending many hours of my time working on a scarf for our cousin gift exchange we do each year. We do the exchange White Elephant style (or Yankee Swap if you will!), but each gift is supposed to be nice (around $25) and well suited to a male or female adult of any age. Right now the scarf is one foot wide by 9 feet long, and I'm almost finished!
As for my mother, she will be receiving this tea set I compiled from items I found at the antique shop. I've been spending a lot of time at the coffee shop crocheting her a tea cozy for the pot, and also buying specialty teas for her to drink from it. She is quite a tea connoisseur, so I think she will really like it!
(I've also bought a right angle drill set for my dad from Sears, so unfortunately not each gift is locally purchased or handmade, but I'm pretty proud of my self for the most part!)
thsoe are very very lovely items!! I can't wait to see the final result of that scarf you've been making that you state is so long already!!!!
We (my brothers and I) were taught the true history of Santa and were told about Jesus' birth as children. we are passing this on to my children. My husband was taught the same but they embraced Santa a little more (where they celebrated St. nicholas day). I just really hate deception.

I was also brought up not believing in Santa and would do the same for my kids. It means you appreciate the presents you get and that someone has had to work hard to pay for them, they don't come from some magical man on a sleigh!
p.s. Love the gifts for your family!

my sister & i have been going crazy doing handmade stuff for christmas this year. we've made about eighty thousand bars of soap (our first try, & we're finally getting it right) and body scrub and made some necklaces. i love crafting for the holidays!

my parents didn't pull the whole santa thing on me, either. we're a big handmade kind of family, but i do wish that they appreciated vintage/antique presents. i love the tea set that you've picked out.

I've always thought I'll bring up my future kids with out santa and it's good to hear from people raised that way that they appreciate it or would do that same with their own kids. Your presents are awesome!
